Why Does a Closed Circuit Cooling Tower Keep Refilling Water? How to Solve This Problem
A closed circuit cooling tower does not have an external water reservoir, but a water basin is designed at the bottom of the cooling tower, equipped with an automatic water replenishment device. The water supply system of a closed circuit cooling tower is a complete automatic control system, comprising water supply pipelines and other water supply equipment. However, if continuous or abnormal water replenishment occurs, it indicates an issue. What are the causes of this continuous water replenishment?
If a closed circuit cooling tower experiences continuous water replenishment, you need to check the entire cooling tower and its pipelines for any leakage. Only leakage can cause a reduction in the circulating volume, thereby requiring a large amount of water replenishment!
The water replenishment of a closed circuit cooling tower is generally controlled by a float valve. Water is a liquid with a certain degree of buoyancy, and simply put, a float valve is a floating ball valve. One end of the float valve is connected to the water replenishment interface, and the other end is a sphere. The sphere of the float valve floats on the water surface and rises and falls with the fluctuation of the water level.
When the water level is high, the float valve is high; when the water level is low, the float valve is low, and it will tightly match the water surface. As the spray water volume decreases, the water level drops, and while dropping, the float valve opens the replenishment port, allowing the cooling water to replenish automatically. As the water volume increases and the water level rises, the float valve rises accordingly, and once it reaches a certain water level line, the replenishment branch pipe is automatically closed. This achieves the effect of automatic water replenishment, with the float valve being the key control instrument.
Benefits of Using a Float Valve:
-
There is no need to assign dedicated personnel to refill water for the cooling tower; simply connecting the water replenishment pipe allows the replenishment process to occur automatically.
-
Timely replenishment: The float valve stays close to the water surface, and when the water level drops, it promptly replenishes the water basin in time to prevent insufficient water volume.
-
Excellent for initial operation: When the cooling tower is used for the first time, if the circulating cooling water has not yet circulated to the spray system or has not fallen back into the water basin, a water shortage would normally occur. Using a float valve to control replenishment ensures smooth water circulation, improving efficiency while refilling water simultaneously.
-
The float valve does not feature electronic systems, making it less prone to damage; it relies on mechanical linkage, requiring no later maintenance or replacement.
-
The float valve is made of metal materials, featuring high surface density and excellent corrosion and rust resistance.
