Core Precautions for the Operation of Closed Circuit Cooling Towers
I. Comprehensive Inspection Before Operation Cannot Be Ignored
Before starting up the closed circuit cooling tower, operators should conduct a systematic inspection of the equipment. It should be confirmed that there are no obvious foreign objects inside or outside the tower, especially in the air inlet and outlet areas, to ensure smooth airflow channels. Secondly, check whether core components such as spray system pipelines, cooling coils, and packing layers are clogged or damaged. The lubrication status of power equipment such as fans and water pumps, belt tightness, and motor wiring should also be checked one by one. It is particularly noteworthy that when a closed circuit cooling tower is restarted after being shut down for the winter, a key inspection should be carried out to check whether there is residual ice water in the coils and pipelines, so as to avoid coil rupture caused by freeze expansion. It is recommended to conduct a low-pressure water filling test before restarting to confirm that the system sealing is good before putting it into normal operation.
II. Parameter Monitoring and Adjustment During Operation
During the normal operation of the closed circuit cooling tower, operators should pay close attention to the following key parameters:
-
Inlet and Outlet Water Temperatures: Should be controlled within the equipment design range. Generally, the inlet water temperature should not be higher than the design value, and the outlet water temperature should meet the requirements of the terminal equipment. An abnormal temperature rise may imply a decrease in heat dissipation capacity or insufficient circulating water volume.
-
Spray Water Level and Water Quality: The spray water basin level should be maintained within the normal range. Too low will cause the spray pump to inhale air, while too high may cause overflow. In terms of water quality, it is recommended to regularly test the pH value, electrical conductivity, and suspended solids content of the spray water to prevent scaling and the growth of bacteria and algae.
-
Fan and Spray Pump Current: Abnormal fluctuations in current values are often precursors to fan bearing wear, blade imbalance, or water pump impeller jamming. When it is found that the current continuously deviates from the rated value, it should be shut down for inspection in time.
